Pendleton blankets — which often feature designs honoring “stories and symbols of Native American cultures” — have long been held in high esteem in many Native communities, but the company is not Native-owned.

For over 150 years, traditional wool brand Pendleton has been the epitome of American style, authenticity and luxurious craftsmanship.

If you encounter a problem with a Pendleton product, we will happily repair it. If reparation is not possible then we we will endeavour to replace it. Failing a suitable replacement we will provide store credit to the value of the item purchased.

Several years ago Pendleton moved clothing production overseas and into Central America. Most of the coordinating blouses and non-wool accessories are made in China or in other Asian countries. The wool, that is still produced in Oregon, is for the most part, sent to Central America for construction.

However, to the point, Pendleton has and still does make an excellent product, woven by skilled craftspeople at three different facilities in Oregon and Washington. Some of the technology may have changed over the years but the care in making a blanket that, when cared for properly, will last for years.

Pendleton made all its products in the United States until 1992, when it began experimenting with Mexican manufacturing. Rick Wilson, district manager of the Union of Needletrade Industrial and Textile Employees, which represents Pendleton workers, said the company had little choice.

The mill where I worked in 1970 is now the home of our Woolen Mill Store in Milwaukie, Oregon. Over three hundred of my co-workers continue to spin yarn and weave fabric at our mills in Pendleton, Oregon and Washougal, Washington.

Machine wash cold, gentle cycle. Only non-chlorine bleach when needed. Tumble dry low.

Due to the unique felting property of wool, this woven cloth goes through a fulling process that uses controlled shrinkage to produce a softer, more compact fabric. The material also passes through other finishing procedures such as washing, shearing, pressing, napping and inspection before production is complete.

Shirts from the 1970's to 1994 can be identified by the Woolmark Tag which remained unchanged until the early 1990's. Label from 1994 to 2009, with a new font and no border. From 1994 to 2009 the label changed dramatically, the yellow border was removed and the font was changed.
