Students may apply to enroll in the Ohio State Master of Global Engineering Leadership (MGEL) degree in either Autumn, Spring, or Summer semesters.
Admission Criteria
All applicants must have earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering and at least one year of professional work or internship experience. Applicants with non-engineering undergraduate degrees may be considered, depending upon the type of non-engineering degree and years of technical work experience. Specific requirements based on an applicant’s choice of technical track may be required as well.
All Master of Global Engineering Leadership applicants must submit and application packet made of the following items:
- Application
Applicants for admission to the MGEL program must complete anOhio State Graduate Admissionsonline application. - Choice of technical track
After an application is received, the MGEL program will contact you regarding your choice of a technical track. The decision must be made when applying. - Resume
Include an updated copy of your resumelisting work experience. Applicants should have at least one year of professional work experience. The resume can be uploaded in the online application system. - Academic credentials and transcripts
Copies of transcripts from all educational institutions you have attended must be submitted for degree verification and undergraduate GPA calculation. Unofficial copies can be uploaded in the online application system to form a complete application packet, but official copies of all transcripts (raised seal or notarized) must still be submitted to the Ohio State Graduate Admission’s Office.Note: You do not have to submit transcripts for course work or degrees received from The Ohio State University. - Letters of recommendation
Arrange to have three recommendations prepared. One should be fromyourimmediate supervisor, and the other two from previous employers or people in managerial positions who supervised your work. One may be from aperson familiar with your qualifications and potential for graduate study. You will have the option of allowing your recommendations to be submitted electronically or in paper form. Instructions are provided for either methodwithin the online application. - Statement of Intent
Include a short essay about why you wish to enroll in the MGEL degree. - Nonrefundable application processing fee
A non-refundable application fee of $60 is required. OSU alumni may be eligible for an admissions fee waiver. - Test Scores
- A GRE scoreis not required for applicants with a GPA of 3.0 or above (from the last undergraduate or advanced degree earned) provided they qualify by meeting the MGEL program admission requirements and have earned adegree from an ABET accredited institution.
- During the admissions process, a recommendationto enrollin theGraduate Bridge Program(to qualify for admission to the MGEL degree) willbe considered for the following student populations: international applicants, applicants with a degree from anon-ABET accredited institution, or applicants who have a GPA below 3.0 from the last undergraduate or advanced degree earned.
The State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement, also known asSARA, establishes uniform standards for distance education for all participating states and institutions. Ohio State joined SARA in 2015, which means Ohio State can offer most online and on-ground courses and programs inSARA member states,districts and territories without seeking authorization in each state.

Curriculum
The Master of Global Engineering Leadership program is focused on developing exceptional engineering leaders who are ready to excel in any organization. With core classes provided by The Ohio State University College of Engineering, John Glenn College of Public Affairs, and The Fisher College of Business, you will gain a wholistic approach to management covering business leadership, engineering and project management, finance and accounting for engineers, technology strategy and innovation management, visual data analysis and design of engineering experiments. Every course is taught by the same faculty that teaches on-campus, so you will receive the same high-quality education no matter where you are located.In addition to the core Master of Global Engineering Leadership courses, you will select courses to create your own customized learning track that you can tailor to your industry, engineering speciality, or personal interests. This program also culminates in a capstone course focused on Operation Excellence that combines all the foundational principles learned in the program and applying them to solve real-world challenges.You also have the opportunity to earn Six Sigma Certification in addition to the Master of Global Engineering Leadership degree if you choose to complete ISE 5810 Lean Sigma Foundations as an elective course. Yellow, Green, or even Black Belt can be earned depending upon previous Six Sigma projects completed.While most students take one or two courses per semester and complete the degree in about two to three years, you have the flexibility to take courses at a rate that best fits your schedule.

Professor, Materials Science and Engineering
Avraham (Avi) Benatar is a Professor of Welding Engineering within the Department of Materials Science and Engineering and Director of the Plastics and Composites Joining Laboratory. He is also the Coordinator of the Welding Engineering Distance Education Master of Science program and Faculty Director of the College of Engineering Master of Global Engineering Leadership.Dr. Benatar teaches in the areas of joining of plastics and composites and welding design. His research interests include adhesive bonding and mechanical joining of plastics and composites, fundamentals of plastics and composites welding, optimization and control of welding processes, development of new welding methods, design of welded joints in plastics and composites including the use of moire and speckle interferometry for residual stress measurement, ultrasonic processing of materials, welding design, modeling of brazed joints, and fitness-for-service.
