Boston Red Sox prospect trade addition triples, doubles on first day in organization (2025)

New Boston Red Sox outfield prospect Yophery Rodriguez went 2-for-5 with a double, triple and two strikeouts for High-A Greenville on Tuesday in his first day with the organization.

The Red Sox acquired the 19-year-old from the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday in exchange for right-handed starter Quinn Priester. They also received a Competitive Balance Round A pick (33rd overall) in the 2025 Draft and a player to be named later or cash considerations.

Rodriguez batted leadoff and played center field in Greenville’s 6-2 loss to Asheville. He doubled in the fifth inning and tripled to lead off the top of the seventh.

Rodriguez’ scouting report from one major league team’s data base: “Tooled-out corner outfielder with plus arm strength and average speed. Contact-oriented lefthanded hitter who uses both sides of the field with gap pop and signs of fence-type projected offense. Currently possesses raw power. Plate discipline is a plus for a 19-year-old kid, near fully developed physically with experience and outfield consistency, has room to improve. Works hard, hits elite velocity.”

Other Red Sox prospect notes from Tuesday

~ Payton Tolle, Boston’s 2024 second-round pick, struggled in his professional debut. He started for Greenville and allowed six runs, five hits (one homer) and three walks while striking out three in just 1 ⅔ innings.

~ Nazzan Zanetello, a 2023 second round pick, went 1-for-3 with a double, two walks and two strikeouts out of the second spot in Greenville’s batting order. The 19-year-old shortstop is 4-for-7 with two doubles, five runs, six walks, three strikeouts and one walk in three games.

~ Antonio Anderson, a 2023 third round pick, went 3-for-5 with two doubles, an RBI, run and strikeout in Low-A Salem’s 9-8 loss to Fredericksburg. The 19-year-old third baseman is 5-for-12 with two doubles, three RBIs, three runs, two walks and three strikeouts in three games.

~ Franklin Arias, who Baseball America ranks No. 74 on its Top 100 list, went 2-for-4 with a run, walk and two strikeouts for Salem. The 19-year-old shortstop is 9-for-16 with two doubles, six runs, two RBIs, two walks, three strikeouts and two stolen bases in four games.

~ Yoeilin Cespedes went 2-for-5 with a run and strikeout for Salem. The 19-year-old middle infielder, who MassLive ranks Boston’s No. 6 prospect, is 4-for-17 (.235) with two runs, two walks and four strikeouts in four games.
